The August 28th lab analysis found 10.2 parts per billion of perchlorate in the water, more than five times the amount allowed under Massachusetts 2006 Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for the chemical. The EPA and the NJ Dept of Environmental Protection have finalized plans for the cleanup of the Evor Phillips Leasing Co. Superfund site. The site consists of 6 acres of contaminated soil with more than a thousand buried waste containers. Read More

Aerojet and Fair Oaks Water District have planned to drill wells to monitor and try to control a plume of groundwater contamination from the Aerojet Superfund site. Trichloroethylene and 1, 4 – dioxane have been identified in the Fair Oaks plume. Some of the places proposed for drilling are on private property, and homeowners have protested, leaving plans for dealing with the plume up in the air. Read More

Much has been done at the Imperial Oil site since it was listed as a Superfund Site 25 years ago. Almost 60 oil tanks are gone from the site and seven buildings demolished, and the equivalent of 200 football fields of soil has been excavated or treated for contamination. Read More

Residents in Cairo, New York, near the American Thermostat Superfund site, are struggling to get clean water. Their wells are running dry because the acquifer is being depleted by the Superfund cleanup—an aquifer that was polluted by dumping at the American Thermostat site. Read More
